Learn How to Build Your Own Solar Panels

General No Comments »

Do you want to learn how to build your own solar panels? If so, you’re not alone.

Many people are looking for ways to reduce power bills – and solar technology is one of the obvious areas to look into.

Once you start investigating buying and installing even a small solar set up, your thought of saving money will be quickly challenged. For some people a ready made solar system is definitely their best choice despite the cost. But for a lot of others the initial outlay will be a major obstacle.

So what’s the alternative? Is it really feasible to build your own solar panels?

The short answer is a resounding yes! Just about anyone can tackle this project. I would recommend that if you don’t own your own home, or you don’t have much building or construction experience, you start small.

You can start with just one solar panel hooked up to a small, deep cycle battery and a small inverter which can cost less than thirty dollars. From that very basic system you could power a few lights and a couple of appliances, depending of course on how much sun you get where you live.

The materials you need to build your own solar panels are nowadays readily available. if you live near a large city or big regional center you could probably find everything you need at your local hardware store. And if you live far from the big shopping areas, you can easily and very cheaply buy everything you need online.

The practical skills you need are not much more than being able to knock up a basic box. That is your panel, a box to attach the solar cells to. A common method of attaching the cells involves some very simple soldering. Other than that you will need some patience as solar cells are very thin and can break easily. And because you are dealing with generating power it is best to take your time, pay attention to the details and make sure your system is safe.

You can build your own solar panels. Real people are doing it every day. You can save thousands of dollars in initial outlay and you might even be eligible for a government grant, rebate, loan or other financial incentive to go green. Click here!

How to Convert Your Home to Solar Power

General No Comments »

For many people, solar power sounds a little new-age or hippy-like, but it has been around since Ancient Greek times.

Remember using a magnifying glass to concentrate the sunlight to burn a piece of paper on the ground in summer? (Or burning ants like I used to do…tsk tsk) That is solar power at work and you can use that same energy source to save money on your electric bill every month.

Solar power not only saves you money on your electric bill, but you can actually make money by selling the electricity you generate back to the power company. If you generate more power than your home uses, the excess power will feed back into the power grid, and you will actually get a check from the power company, instead of a bill! These type of systems are called grid tie or grid connect.

The other option which is particularly good in remote areas is a stand alone solar system.

This system requires a good array of solar panels and a decent sized battery bank to store the power. You will also need an inverter to convert the solar energy into useable household power.

When you convert your home to solar power you don’t need to change your appliances or power point switches or anything like that. The power is converted either by an inverter or the power company – if you are using a grid tie system – into the right voltage for a residential home.

If you choose a stand alone system you might need to consider a 12volt or gas fridge as refrigerators consume an enormous amount of energy every day. Other appliances that will really test your solar system are heating devices such as radiators, toasters, ovens and electric kettles.

You might not be able to completely cover the power needs of your home with solar unless you install a big system and have an ideal climate. But even if you start off with one small panel, you can easily and reliably power a couple of lights and a couple of small appliances and never have to pay for that power again.

And as I’m sure you are aware solar power is far better for the environment than petroleum products, and because it is a renewable resource, we will never run out. With a small investment of money and time, you can start generating your own electricity, saving money, and doing your part to help save the environment.

Learn how to convert your home to solar power for a fraction of the cost of a professionally installed system.

Affordable Solar Power-What Are the Options?

General 2 Comments »

So many people these days really need to cut down on their daily living expenses. Obviously most of us don’t want a drop in our standard of living, just a drop in our outgoing expenses. One of the best ways of doing this is to save money on home utilities bills. And that’s why now is a very good time to investigate affordable solar power.

Most of us know a few ways to reduce the bills. Common strategies include turning off unnecessary lights and using the most energy efficient appliances we can afford. These tactics, valuable as they are, realistically will only save you pennies rather  than the hundreds of dollars you need to really make a difference.

Converting your power sources to alternative or renewable energy will give you the biggest savings. Savings that will actually increase over time. The biggest problem is that installing an alternative power source will cost big bucks in initial outlay.  And when you do the sums you might get a nasty surprise.

When I checked out how much it would cost to put a relatively small solar setup on my own house I sadly had to accept that I couldn’t afford it. It was going to cost me thousands and that was even with government rebates factored in.

The good news is that there is such a thing as affordable solar power. The trick is to build your own solar panels.

Home made solar power has always been an option but up until recently it was only people with specialized knowledge who could get involved. But times have changed. With improvement in technology and a big increase in demand, the price for solar power components has radically dropped. You can pick up the materials you need for home made solar power for literally just a few dollars.

Also the instructions you need to install an affordable solar power system are now instantly available to anyone.

Governments around the world are throwing incentives like rebates and interest free green loans at their citizens as we all scramble to go green and clean and save money. This solar panel diy guide is excellent and will show you how to make your own affordable solar power.

How to Make Homemade Solar Panel Energy

Homemade Solar 3 Comments »

The economy and the environment are forcing us to re-evaluate not only our lifestyles but also the cost of maintaining them. The downturn has affected most of us and a lot of people have little or no savings left, and no access to credit.

One of the best things to do is try to find ways to save money. And a great place to start is your utility budget.

One option is to learn how to make homemade solar panel energy. The items you need are very economical to buy if you are prepared to assemble them yourself. Items like the actual photovoltaic cells or film that capture the sun’s energy and the connecting cables and diode valves can be bought in almost any hardware store and are even available wholesale online.

Solar energy is not as complicated as it sounds and certainly not as difficult or expensive as it used to be. Government and industry have been investing heavily in solar energy technology. The change in the way solar energy is harnessed is amazing and nothing like what it used to be. You no longer have to have your entire roof covered in solar panels to create enough energy to power your home! You can do it with a much smaller investment and even generate enough power to sell back to the power company.

In order to make homemade solar panel energy work for you, you need to be able to follow instructions to create the panels that will soak in all of that solar energy. Whether you live in a house or condominium, or run a business, you can locate a small solar panel on your property and begin generating electricity the very same day. At the end of the month, you will see the difference in your utility bill.

If you are thinking of how to make homemade solar panel energy work for you, there are numerous online resources that are available. With a small investment, you can save money on your utility bill, possibly create a nice tax deduction or be eligible for a government rebate, and even increase the value of your home.

Can You Really Build Your Own Solar Panels For Free or Next to Nothing?

Solar Panels DIY 7 Comments »

Sure you can. You’ll need access to ’stuff.’ Maybe you have a collection of ’stuff’ at home. Bits and pieces of cable, old batteries and diode valves. You’ll also need some timber or metal offcuts to construct a box. The box will be the framework of your panel.

The most important ingredient of your free panel is the photo voltaic cells. They are very cheap to buy. They are readily available from places like ebay, usually sold as a brick of mono crystalline wafer-thin slivers.

If you are going to be a purist and stick to totally free, you can peel off the solar cells attached to solar lights. Usually the plastic housing perishes on those things a lot sooner than the cell life expires. Or often the battery in a solar light will die and, like a lot of cheap gadgets, it is not replaceable.

Another method of using free materials is to use broken solar cells. I have seen solar panels made entirely from small pieces of smashed up panel. You don’t need to have a panel made up of perfect little squares for it to work. Your ‘crazy’ panel probably won’t be as efficient but as long as you connect it properly it will work.

This SolarDIY guide shows you how to make solar panels for less than two hundred dollars using new materials and even tells you how you can make the panel from broken cells so that it costs you next to nothing!

Is it possible to construct a grid infeed, solar power system without the use of batteries at all?
I'm wanting to send all power generated into the grid and I was hoping that I could do away with the expense and maintenance/upkeep of purchasing batteries?
If this is possible, would it work with a wind generator in the system as well?
If batteries are indeed Read the rest of this entry »
